Not everyone who visits Harbour Kitchen is there for a function. Plenty of people come for a regular dinner, a long lunch, or just drinks by the water — and it works just as well for that. The Docklands location gives it a relaxed, unhurried feel that you don't always get in the middle of the CBD, and the waterfront terrace on a good Melbourne day is genuinely hard to beat. The food leans heavily on seafood, which makes sense given where the place sits. It's not overly fussy cooking — the focus is on quality produce prepared well, which is exactly what you want from a waterfront restaurant. The menu has enough range that groups with different tastes can all find something they're happy with, and the shared dining format works well if you're going with a group and want to try a bit of everything. The wine list is decent — a good spread of Australian bottles with some international options, and the staff know it well enough to give an honest recommendation rather than just pointing at the most expensive option. It's the kind of place that works for a casual catch-up just as easily as it works for a special occasion dinner. That flexibility is rarer than it sounds.
